John Gorton Building - Canberra ACT
Integrated into the John Gorton Building cafe forecourt is a sculptural water feature designed by CLOUSTON Associates. The feature utilises the same granite as the building and the stones were carefully selected for their quarry-cut aesthetic appeal with some faces sawn and others polished. The water source element takes its cues from aerofoil styled detailing on the building and the fountain is set against a stylised Australian bush landscape.
At the rear of the building, former ASIO underground bunkers were converted into office spaces for the Australian Greenhouse Office, by Daryl Jackson Alistair Swayn Architects. Four courtyards were constructed to provide light into the basement offices. While using a similar design palette of materials, each courtyard has a different visual aesthetic and character.
