HARBOUR VIEWS AT A PRICE. DIRECTORS SLEEP ROUGH IN A GOOD CAUSE - 29/6/2009
Sydney weather has not been kind to those sleeping rough of late, and it was with some trepidation that Leonard Lynch and Crosbie Lorimer headed out into the torrential rain to join the ranks of 240 CEOs participating in St Vincent de Paul Society’s annual ‘SLEEPOUT’ at Luna Park last week.
While the sleeping out was the prime focus of the night, a moving and inspiring program of talks and performances from both homeless people and those involved in their care, and a sense of common purpose created an extraordinary atmosphere that encouraged the CEOs to better their own donations, sending the collection tally soaring beyond $500,000 (more than double the St Vincent’s target).
Close to midnight the CLOUSTON pair headed to their pavement suite with harbour views where Leonard relived his days as an architecture student building an impressive cardboard tent under which to sleep, while Crosbie counted his blessings that he had kept his thermals from his offshore yacht racing days.
Despite registering late in the event Leonard and Crosbie managed to raise over $2,500 for the charity and would like to say a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to all who sponsored them.
The pair have vowed to return next year and plan to co-opt other CEOs to join them; so if your job description falls even loosely in that category look out for your ‘invitation’!
