SPECIAL AWARD FOR DARWIN ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE - 24/10/2008
CLOUSTON is pleased to announce that the Darwin Entertainment Centre / Holiday Inn Forecourt project has received a special NT Award for Design from AILA, having been entered for the 2008 National Awards.
In its special citation, the AILA jury commended the way in which Tony Cox encouraged the site owner and Council to embrace a more progressive approach to tree planting and use of materials, stating that "The project was a retrofit of an existing and tired looking complex and CLOUSTON's leadership has delivered a distinctly Darwin feel to the centre through the use of lightweight overhead structures, native plants and local natural materials."
In addition, this project received both the Urban Design award and the award for Public Architecture (won jointly with another CLOUSTON project, Darwin Football Stadium) in the RAIA NT Awards.
Congratulations and thanks should also go to Darwin City Council and Berger Investments for their vision and support, Troppo Architects for the original concept and master plan, and to a great consultant team for a fantastic outcome.
