Sustainability Award for Darwin Airport - 19/11/2008
CLOUSTON's Darwin office has gained yet more industry recognition in 2008, winning the prestigious BPN Environ Sustainability Award in Landscape Design for Darwin Airport Commercial Precinct. The award was accepted by Bianca Simpson at a presentation dinner held in the Skeleton Gallery at the Australian Museum in Sydney in mid November.
The Darwin Airport Commercial Precinct is a landscape shaped by the extremes of Darwin’s wet and dry seasons that provides habitat, conserves water and showcases a diverse mix of native plants. Sustainability principles were integral to the project catching the attention of the general public and raising awareness of the value of native plants and the cost benefits of low water and low maintenance landscapes. In tropical Darwin, a city often wasteful of water and not always one to embrace native vegetation, the landscape has set a new standard in sustainable design.
Congratulations and thanks should also go to NT Airport Authority for embracing the sustainable principles that have made this an award winning project.
